House verdict

Income sleeve — ROC-heavy payout, capped upside. DIVO holds 20-25 quality large-cap dividend stocks and writes tactical covered calls against them, paying the premium out monthly — $0.1890 a share for September 2026. The cash is real, but most of it is not dividend income: Amplify's own 30-day SEC yield, which counts dividends only and excludes option income, was 1.40% at September 30, 2026, against a 4.88% distribution rate. And the 2026 19(a) estimates put return of capital at about 71% of year-to-date distributions through July — estimates, not the audited year-end figure, but the direction is plain. Total return is genuinely positive — +214.4% on NAV since the December 2016 inception — so this is not principal destruction, but it trails the S&P 500's +295.6% over the same window: the upside sold to pay the monthly cash is the cost.

Key risk: The payout leans on return of capital on 2026 estimates and on capped upside: the calls sell away gains above the strike, so in a strong market DIVO lags the index its stocks come from, and a holder who spends the distributions may be spending part of the position itself.

Changes if: NAV total return turns negative across a full cycle, or the audited year-end return-of-capital share stays the majority while NAV erodes — either moves it from an income sleeve to a trap. The grade improves if audited return of capital falls to a minority and NAV keeps compounding.

What this grade doesn't say: It screens the dividend only — covered, real, compounding. It says nothing about valuation or price: a well-covered payer can still be overpriced, and its price can still fall.

DIVO in the House

Room: Foundation Income. Not one of the House's current holdings — in Order a New House it takes a seat in this room and carries the room's 17% target. Target 17% — the foundation layer. Covered-call income on quality dividend stocks, paid monthly, that the rest of the House stands on.
