Not covered — and NAV is falling. The regular distribution is $0.06 a month — $0.72 a year, an 18.18% yield on the $3.96 close of October 23, 2026 — and the board added a $0.03 monthly special for October, November and December 2026, funded from undistributed (spillover) income, for $1.08 a year combined, a 27.27% headline rate. Neither rate is covered by current earnings: second-quarter net investment income was $0.11 per share for the quarter, including $0.07 per share of non-recurring Monroe Capital merger expenses — $0.18 before those costs — against $0.27 a quarter at the Q4 distribution rate. NAV fell to $6.23 per share at June 30, 2026 from $6.98 at December 31, 2025, on $38.5 million of net unrealized depreciation largely tied to one portfolio company, and the shares trade at a roughly 36% discount to that NAV. The regular rate itself was cut to $0.06 from the prior $0.11 monthly level; the special is spillover, not recurring earnings, and it is not a raise.
Key risk: Venture-debt borrowers are development-stage companies: one bad loan moves NAV sharply, as the second quarter showed, and a credit downturn that pushes more loans to non-accrual is what would force the regular rate down again.
Changes if: Net investment income recovers above the $0.09 monthly combined rate on a sustained basis and NAV stabilizes. If NAV keeps falling quarter after quarter while distributions exceed NII, the regular rate is set above what the portfolio earns.
- !NII coverage check: Q2 2026 net investment income was $0.11 per share for the quarter ($0.18 before $0.07 of non-recurring merger costs) against $0.27 a quarter at the declared Q4 rate ($0.06 regular + $0.03 special per month) — not covered even before merger costs.
- !Regular vs. special check: Regular: $0.06 a month, $0.72 a year, 18.18% at $3.96. Special: $0.03 a month for Q4 2026 only, funded from spillover income per the company — $0.09 a month combined, 27.27% headline. Counting the special as recurring income would overstate the yield.
- !NAV trend check: NAV per share fell from $6.98 at December 31, 2025 to $6.23 at June 30, 2026, down about 10.7% in six months, on a $37.3 million net decrease in net assets from operations ($0.57 per share) in Q2 alone.
- !Yield check: 18.18% on the regular distribution alone is in the distress band, and the shares sit at a roughly 36% discount to the $6.23 NAV — the market is pricing further NAV erosion and another regular-rate cut, not a safe 18% income stream.
What this grade doesn't say: It screens the dividend only — covered, real, compounding. It says nothing about valuation or price: a well-covered payer can still be overpriced, and its price can still fall.
