Covered — reset after the breakup. A 1.27% yield at a 33.2% payout of guided adjusted earnings is covered on the continuing company's own numbers: $0.70 a quarter is $2.80 a year against $8.40–$8.45 of guided 2026 adjusted EPS, and guided free cash flow of about $2.1 billion covers the roughly $0.9 billion annual dividend cost about 2.4×. The flag is the reset, not today's math — Solstice was spun off in October 2025 and Aerospace on June 29, 2026, with a 1-for-2 reverse split, so the $0.70 rate is a new base for the remaining automation company (Honeywell Technologies), declared twice with no raise yet, and the pre-spin per-share history does not carry over to it.
Key risk: The continuing company is smaller than the one that paid the old dividend — if automation earnings and free cash flow after the Solstice and Aerospace separations fall short of the raised 2026 guidance, or separation and debt costs claim more cash, the room for a first raise from the $0.70 base shrinks first.
Changes if: Free cash flow from the continuing company falls below the roughly $0.9 billion annual cost of the dividend, adjusted earnings are cut enough to push the payout well above 33.2%, or the $0.70 rate stays flat with no first raise as earnings grow. A bad quarter alone would not do it.
- ✓Payout-coverage check: 33.2% of guided adjusted earnings ($2.80 indicated ÷ $8.425 midpoint of the $8.40–$8.45 full-year 2026 adjusted EPS guide raised in the Oct. 22, 2026 earnings release filed on EDGAR), and guided free cash flow of about $2.1 billion covers the roughly $0.9 billion annual dividend cost (317.4 million shares × $2.80) about 2.4×. Reported EPS is not used: nine-month reported continuing EPS of $19.19 in the Q3 10-Q includes a one-time $6,629 million gain on deconsolidation of Quantinuum.
- !Yield check: 1.27% indicated ($0.70 × 4 ÷ $221.15 close on Oct 23, 2026) is a real cash dividend, not a distribution or return of capital, but it sits below the 2.0% line for a single stock — the income is modest, and the case rests on coverage and a future raise, not on current yield.
- !Dividend growth check: The old combined company raised the dividend to $1.13 a quarter in 2024 and $1.19 in 2025 — $2.26 and $2.38 a quarter on the split-adjusted basis the filings now use — but that record belonged to the combined company. After the Solstice spin-off (completed Oct. 30, 2025) and the Aerospace spin-off (June 29, 2026, with a 1-for-2 reverse split), the continuing automation company declared $0.70 a quarter in July 2026 and held it in September — a reset base with no raise yet, so the growth record restarts here.
What this grade doesn't say: It screens the dividend only — covered, real, compounding. It says nothing about valuation or price: a well-covered payer can still be overpriced, and its price can still fall.
